Honestly, even if you aren't outright trying to mimic vintage art, this is a solid set of inking brushes! There's a good amount of variety, and they provide nice, bold, expressive lines. This pack has left me wanting more inking brushes from this company.

I'm in the process of writing and illustrating my first comic book and always looking for a broader range of brushes to capture the ethos of a moment better, particularly I was interested in some brushes that would look more like nibs on paper. I'm super pleased with this package. There are a few that stand out like the classic nib that have a texture to the stroke that give it authenticity and personality. Can't wait to do pages with these brushes.

To give you a little bit of backstory, on the morning of June 4th, 2024, my close friend from high school, Zachary Blake Henn, who we all referred to as Zac, was tragically killed in a car accident on his way to school. He was only 17 years old and he was a couple of weeks away from finishing his junior year. The news of his passing hit our tight-knit community hard and his death greatly affected me, my friends, and others who knew him. Days after his death, people from the community started paying tribute to him artistically, which inspired me to make a tribute of my own. Zac loved cars, so I thought it would be fitting if I created a tribute inspired by vintage car decals from the 60s. Specifically, those made by Ed “Big Daddy” Roth.

I have used RetroSupply products for other projects and have always been impressed with the quality, so it was a no-brainer to use the Standard Pen set to create that vintage look I was striving for.

The Toothy Fountain Pen was my personal favorite from the set and was the main pen I used to create my illustration.
