Learn MoreA Digital Library of Vintage Lettering
Achieve a deep and rich knowledge of lettering, sign painting, and typography with the Lettering Library.
This collection of 125 rare lettering books was acquired by lettering artist and graphic designer Jason Carne over many years of searching auction sites, antique shops, and word-of-mouth from fellow artists.
The result is a library of books that cost over $10,000 to build and contains books on a vast array of lettering related subjects including:
- Hand lettering
- Sign painting
- Type design
- Typesetting
- Printing
- And much, much more
Jason has made this collection of books available as PDF files meticulously photographed to preserve these rare books.
Grab yourself a glass of bourbon, your favorite notebook, and open up any of the 125 PDF books in the Lettering Library and immerse yourself in the history and secrets of lettering.
Photographed. Not Scanned.
The Lettering Library is a gigantic download. 4.7 GB to be precise.
This is largely because each book has been carefully photographed, not scanned, so the books don't get damaged.
If you love lettering you get it. You understand why these books have been photographed.
If you're looking for scanned books to save on file size or so you can drop them in Adobe Illustrator and live trace the letters, this isn't for you.
Testimonials
"I bought it within 5 seconds of seeing it (which is faster than I make impulse buys in the chips section of the grocery store). Treat yo self to this invaluable resource OR boyfriends/girlfriends of letterers: buy this for your type-obsessed significant other and win holiday gift giving for life."
"All my design, illustration, type friends... CHECK THIS OUT! Jason Carne has assembled the Avengers of type instruction and cataloging. This is an insane deal and you should check it out! Jason is the real deal."
"Lettering Library is a great source of inspiration for all typography artists and designers."
"Easiest decision I've made all year."
The Lettering Library is a PDF Collection
This is a collection of 125 PDFs created from Jason's collection of authentic vintage lettering books. You are not buying physical books. (Which is actually good because it would take up a ton of space).
Note: The discounted price is based on the cost of these books if you were to purchase them individually from Lettering Library.

Are you tired of the same old generic fonts?
Do you need more inspiration for new material?
I highly recommend the Lettering Library Mega Bundle. I originally thought I was just getting fonts & alphabets but there is so much more included in this bundle from fancy Mamogramms to Ornamental Designs.
I am extremely stoked I pulled the trigger on this. There is just endless material to search through.

I’d give a 100 stars and more if I could!!! This is absolutely the best ever collection of vintage lettering guides and books you could ever find in any library of the world. If you are someone interested in learning from original lettering works of yesteryear masters, then look no further. I’ve read through only a third of the books present and every page was a precious gem. All the pages are high quality jpeg images taken with good lighting. I’m from India and I love vintage lettering and am practising to develop my own style. I wasn’t able to find good books on the subject online or in my city’s local libraries. I saved up for purchasing this awesome awesome product and this was one of the best ever investments I’ve made. Thank you Retrosupply, Dustin and team for putting all these books together for vintage lettering enthusiasts like me. Truly grateful🙏🏻 keep up the good work guys!!!

I am really enjoying the Lettering Library Mega Bundle!! This was a once in a lifetime deal for me since I have been searching for the very books you have offered. I was able to find only a couple of the actual books in your bundle for sale but for $200 to 500 dollars each from private sellers. These books have really inspired me to do more signage for fun and for sale. I had the pleasure of hanging out and learning from VonDutch from 1981 to 1986 at his shop in Santa Paula,CA. He is the one who got me interested in sign painting. I am very thankful for you making these books available. Keep up the wonderful work!! Here are several projects inspired by your bundle.

Oh. My. Goodness! This resource is one of the best purchases I've ever made. It will take some time to look through all 125 books, which are not only relevant to lettering but also illustration and niche subjects of illustration. Most of the books are from the 1800s and early 1900s, giving loads of examples of authentic vintage craft. Oops - I mean, this is a terrible product and none of my potential competitors should buy it. Shoo!

I don't think i will ever get enough or finish staring at each page of these books and seeing the incredible beautiful lettering art it contains. These books are essential for anyone who appreciate vintage art and fonts and want to dive deep into lettering.
